I've lost all of my pregnancy weight and would like to lose about 5 more pounds, but just can't seem to get rid of it. There's about 5 pounds just hanging out on my belly. My friends say it b/c i'm nursing but it's driving me crazy! For those of you that finished breast feeding, do those last pounds just fall off? And, how much did you lose after stopping nursing?

I was hoping that that pooch was "just in case" fat that your body keeps while your breastfeeding to make sure you have enough nutrients to make milk. And, that it would go away when you quit breastfeeding. I guess it was just hopeful thinking!

I have to disagree with all of the other parents out there. I have breastfed all of my children and I ALWAYS kept an additional 5-10 pounds that just seemd to vanish a couple of months after breastfeeding. I know that you do burn calories while breastfeeding but I am a pretty active person and breastfeeding always ties you down to sitting more than you usually would so my theory is it might burn 500 more calories per day but I could burn that easily by just getting up off the couch for the 30 minutes x 6-8 feedings per day. I fed all of my kids until they were over a year and I am currently still breastfeeding my 1 year old but am hoping to start getting her to drink out of a cup real soon so I will let you know if the last 8 pounds comes off with this one also. Nursing is typically what makes a woman lose weigh after her pregnancy. After you quit nursing, there's no magic or sudden weight loss. Any weight you lose from that point on will be because of your own efforts to lose it, by eating healthily and exercising.

Have you tried increasing your activity level? It can be difficult this time of year, but just getting out with baby and taking a walk can help. If the weather is bad where you live, walk around the mall with baby in a stroller or sling a few times per week.
Decrease your fat intake.
Reducing your calorie intake by about 100 calories per day can make some difference and is safe and easy to do as long as your baby is over 2 mos old. Your daily calorie intake should be betewen 1500-1800 calories per day while nursing to help maintain your supply.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

It's not from nursing. I nursed all of my children and I gained weight when I quit. You burn 500 calories when you nurse. Do extra ab exercises. They'll help.

Nursing actually helps you lose weight. It will be more difficult to lose weight when you stop. I've always put weight back on when I've quit.

I have always heard you lose weight from breast feeding.. since you are using so much from your body to supply the milk. So I do not know for sure if you will lose any at all. Good luck.
