The term 'blog' is short for Web Log. They were first used for technical reasons, but have since come to be used pretty much as on-line diaries.

A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual although some focus on photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), or audio (podcasting), and are part of a wider network of social media.
The term "blog" is derived from "Web log." "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

But I think they just want to know what it's for?!
So, a "Blog" is just a place to go and share your feelings whether you want to share them with others or not. Some places you go to, you are able to make the thoughts you type private or you can share them with others. ???right??? is that what you wanted to know? :)
