OK, first of all, I want you to realize I'm not trying to push anyones buttons. I just want some honest answers, analysis or insight. In the US especially, women are obsessed with weight loss and dieting. Why? Is it the media - i.e. TV, magazines who are to blame- or is there something else?. At the checkout aisle at my local supermarket I noticed that on the cover of every single women's magazine there is information about weight loss, some new fad diet, some new miracle food, some new quick fix. They are essentially diet magazines masquerading as content.

Media like you mentioned does influence things... women too notice those things and it sets a standard of "oh, that's what's explected/desireable". But more so, its the sense of self image and comparing ones self to another women and being very aware of guys treatment and attention they give to various women. Women can be very snide with making comments about that little pudge, body figure, and praising the skinniest girls. So often, you find that guys are often checking out that slim little figure. You date guys that will say one minute "oh, you're pretty skinny, you can gain a little weight", but then they turn around and hit on the next girl thats way more slim. Girls that have been chubby when younger (sometimes its just the slightest amount of pudge) get ingored by guys and put down by girls, and especially for those who really work hard on loosing weight later in their early 20's suddenly get a ton more attention and better treatment (often these ladies can be the most insecure about gaining weight again, and the most persistant at watching diet and body image). Haven't you ever noticed that ladies in a committed, and especially married relationship have far less concern over body image? (typically gaining 5-20 lbs in the first two years of their relationship). Which is why if you go for the women who's been single and slim past 25yrs of age, you'll more likely find that she's more persistant with "keep slim = keep attractive" (more years of trying to attract attention)

Honestly, I think it comes down with acceptance. Women feel like they are more likely to be accepted by men (as much as women will try to argue this point) if they're thin, cause that what makes them more attractive. I mean, if there were no men on this Earth then who would you really trying to look good for- yourself? Yes you can say that, but it's untrue. When you go out on a date, you try your best to look good cause you want the guy to think you're attractive. If you're going to clean the house you're not wearing make up and heels, you're wearing sweats and a tee. It all boils down to what others think of you.

I've always thought that we want what we don't have.

I'm a curvy gal, not overweight, but sometimes i want to be a waif.

And now a days, a lot of woman have poor body image and low selfesteem and confidence.

Sometimes weight is a control issue in their life.

Who knows.

To many Hollywood stories with girls with perfect bodies showing just about all of it for fun. All girls see this stuff and want to be just like the stars - very sad because it is all a dream world and real life is not like that. It is the same with us guys and having a strong body and hard gut and big penis, etc, etc. The magazines make our lives miserable but we just don't realize how brain washed we have become.

I would say it is more a result of all of the "Shallow Hals" out there who worship beauty and thinness before getting to know the person within.
