I agree with leog70ne,you should check your internet options, and then check the privacy tab, make sure the box for pop-up-blocker is ticked and applied
you can also do this by while on your browser click tools>pop-up-blocker and again check that all the options are enabled or on
as you are a yahoo user, why not use their free toolbar with free pop-up-blocker,this is a good add-on as you can easily disable it when needed just by clicking the icon
pop-ups in reality are a form of adware and by removing the cause of popups will eliminate them completely
download adaware personal(http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5),this is a scanner that scans for adware and removes them thouroughly, and you can get the yahoo toolbar from http://uk.toolbar.yahoo.com/
another excellent program that will help keep away popups is spybot(http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html),although this is really for removing spyware,as poups come from the same family adding this program will only be a good addition to your p.c,s security
avoiding sites with pop ups is another way of avoiding getting adware in the first place, try using mcafee site advisor(http://www.siteadvisor.com/),this will give you a "ranking" of each page, for example green=safe , amber=caution , red= beware
i recommend this advisor as 1)its from a trusted name 2) it constanly being updated as people discover new sites
by taking all this advice you can eliminate,if not reduce the amount of pop-ups you get
i hope this helps
good luck

Download either the google or yahoo toolbar. I have both and I very rarely have a any pop-ups - in fact i have to turn them off now and again to let pop-up i want (e.g. media players) through.

Has anyone messed with your "Internet Options"??
You can go your browser and find the options to prevent pop-ups from being shown.
eg: In internet explorer you go to internet options and click that box that says block pop-ups.
It will be better if I knew what Browser you are using..
