Short Man Syndrome is a rationalizing psychological phenonomenon also known as Napoleon Complex. Basically, the person rationalizes that his problems are caused by his lack of height which could be real or imagined. Typically, they feel the need to over-achieve to compensate for their perceived slight.

I am not a psychologist, but I always apply the term to hyper aggressive men who always have to compete and win that happen to be short. If they seem like they have a chip on their shoulder because of they're height and they're out to prove they're as big a man as anyone - I call that short man syndrome.

any person can suffer from Short Man Syndrome. Stuff like that doesn't have a basis in fact, or reality. It's based on a persons own feelings of self-worth, or the lack thereof. It doesn't have to be rational, it doesn't have to be based in fact.

I have always heard that "Short Man Syndrom" is psychological rather than physical. For example, a man who is a bit shorter than the norm might try to act tough to be more intimidating to draw attention away from his height.

But that's how I have always viewed it.

lol.. short man syndrom typically refers to someone who is overly defensive, and quick to anger.. the name came about with the idea that short men would need to prove their prowess in order to compete with taller men... it would seem to come from an insecurity about their height...

basically its when someone is overcompensating for a weakness... definetly not a true syndrome though..

I think you mean the Napolean Complex? It's when someone is short and they try to make up for their lack in height with something else. For example, when a small person get's a massive muscle car, or when they try to act tough like they can take on everything.
