while I was stopped at an intersection. After a few swear words, I was able to start it right up again, and I haven't had a problem with it since (this was earlier today and I've driven it a few more times since). It's a 1994 Mercury Topaz, and it's recently had a lot of work done to it, and I haven't ever had this problem with it before. It's got a full tank of gas. It's also really cold out today (-3, with wind chill -18) so I imagine that makes a difference, but my real question is,
Is this something I need to worry about if it just happened once?
Thanks :)

One of the most common reasons for a ford to stall at a stop is build up around the throttle plate and iac (idle air control) motor. You should have them cleaned, usually done along with an injector service, and have the rest of the tune-up items checked.

There are other things that could cause this but unless it gets worse I would start with the cleaning.

pour a pint of gas line anti freeze in the tank. most times a few drops of water can freeze up in the gas line and cause stalling.

I wouldn't be worried at all. It is probably time (or overdue) for a tune up. Cold weather will amplify the need for a tune up.
