The first blog went online around 1997, created by John Barger. Though it wasn't called a blog yet, it had all the elements of today's blog, like the publication of mini articles in and ante-chronological order. (Barger even used the word "weblog").

His website was called robot wisdom, and can be accessed on robotwisdom.com (although the site may be temporarily unavailable).

Barger is thus credited as having pioneered the blog genre.

It is not right to give all credit to John Barger. Blogging is related to basic human instinct of gregariousness. It came up spontaneously. But if still insist upon a particular name!- well it is Barger.

Just joking, blog is short for Weblog.
It started in the early '90s by a number of people. Hard to pinpoint exactly one who did start it, but wikipedia lists a few of them.

Bloggers collectively. It was not invented overnight but rather the name given to a particular form of online activity once it gathered steam.

Well there is ONE guy that kind of pioneered it and I remember reading his stuff!

His name is JUSTIN HALL.
