after installing a new hard drive, what boot disk do i need to use?

dependa on what windows your loading if its xp you need only the xp cd and make sure its set to boot from cd rom

Use your w XP disk if you want xp installed or any operating system disk. Since your new hard drive has no partition it should boot from cd drive

Primary boot disk on which you installed your operating system.

u need the cd rom as 1st boot device(cd of a bootable OS should b inserted in cd rom)
