With BMC and MMRDA at a duel I dont think it is going to be remotely possible.

The recent BMC elections that saw the Sena-BJP combine come back to power, is a dissappointing trend. They have ruled the BMC for over 10 years now and the people have given power to these very same crooked officials who kept our city hostage to shortage of water supply, 26/7 flood, bad roads, garbage and disease, dengue, malaria etc????? I wonder what is wrong with the city! State government after seeing this debacle of the BMC had slowly taken away power and given the same to MMRDA - who has done a splendid job of bettering the roads from Bandra to Goregaon - (check the Western Express Highways) Yet a lot needs to be done as there is haggling over jurisdictions and power sharing. The Central govt under the leadership of Manmohan singh has sanctioned Rs.50,000 crore for Mumbai's development. This request was made at the time when BJP was in power at the center and the same was delayed, because it came from a non-BJP rules state, what a shame!.
Hope the amount now sanctioned goes to the MMRDA and not to the BMC who are only full of useless Sena leaders who will keep Mumbai city hostage if they are not paid bonus on time!!! That too for doing nothing???

Thats what Mr Manmohan says. But it won't happen till actual steps to modernize happens. Currently Mumbai contributes to a huge cheque with respect to Income Tax to the centre. However we see very little returns from them.

If this continues there will be shortage of funds. Additionally there is a complete lack of plan in all issues. There is no coordination between various agencies and there is complete blamegame on.

With this attitude, I doubt if Mumbai will become next Shanghai.

This is the oldest indian city and will be the first to die .It is a dying city.Today the prices have gone so high even with pitiable living conditions .Any positive development in this city will take prices so high that its sustainability will be questionable.A road widens and prices increase by 1000 per sqt.
Shangai was created on a virgin piece of land under a communist regime where two a penny netas dont have a role to play and here they are thinking of creating something by shifting millions of people and two a penny netas have all role to play.RIP MUMBAI

Simple, U justify the name yr parents gave U.
Mumbai could be better than Shanghai, but for the incessant hordes of Hungry & naked Bhaiyas descending on it every day for livelihood. They construct unauthorised huts anywhere, and the local dadas protect these from demolition.
Unless this inflow of thieves, thugs, beggars, the deseased is controlled, even God could do nothing.
Thankfully , the only party which is earnest about this menace has won the Elections. Hope them success.

After liberalisation of economy from the clutches of licences/bureaucracy, the infrastructure of the city is often compared with other cities in the world. It often said that city is paying so much to central/state Governments,no body has time to invest in the infrastructure requirements of city.Things have started to change.Soon there will be drastic changes in the look of city

there had been some speculation regarding this sometime back. rather there were comparisons drawn between the two. but its very doubtful whether that will happen ever. its not possible to have a city becoming a clone of another.
