1 1/2 doubled is 3. A quarter of an hour is 15 minutes and 3 quarters of an hour is 45 minutes. If you take an hour and divide it into 4 you have 4 quarters each equalling 15 minutes. If you divide it in half you have 2 halves equalling 30 minutes. Since two halves make a whole, 1 and a half and 1 and a half equals 3.

one fourth of an hour = 1/4 * 60 mins = 15 minutes
three fourths = 3/4 * 60 minutes = 45 minutes
1 1/2 hours * 2 = 1.5 * 2 = 3 hours (doubled means you multiply by 2)

1/4*60= 60/4=15 minutes.
3/4*60=180/4=45minutes

i would say he took 3 hours to complete the task( 1 1/2 hrs=1hr30minutes.) 2x that would be (2hrs +2(30 minutes=1hour) 3hrs.

1 1/2 = 3/2

3/2 x 2 = 6/2 = 3

If they want time it took total, you would add the original 1 1/2 to 3.
