i have a lexmark z605 and i am trying to install it manually on my computer because i dont have the disk, and I am wondering what printer will be compatible because the z 605 isnt available to me on my list of printers to choose from.

Visit the Lexmark website and look for the driver for your exact model.

Visit http://www.lexmark.com

After downloading the software, try to run that and follow the instructions carefully.

Anything else would not give you the full functionality.

commiserations for owning a Lexmark. I have two. Some days I don't even want to get out of bed.

can't you download a driver from Lexmark? That would be more likely to work.

Dell printers are rebadged Lexmarks - could you schnaffle a driver from there?

Yes it will auto detected under winXP. alsoNo need to look for specific driver.
