I am considering doing Veterinary Nursing as I love animals but is that enough when I really want to make a difference to people? I wish I had the nerves to do Human Nursing but am scared how I would cope as I have had depression, but I do enjoy first aid which I know is different. I thought about doing Psychology/Counselling or Education but am so unsure! I really want to go back to uni and retrain now having worked in IT and I want to get it right now! Serious advice only please!

I love animals and went into college pre vet med/biology. But I did not like the technical side of chemistry and other things needed to obtain that degree. I ended up going business instead. I am self employed as a Realtor and make animals a part of my marketing whenever possible. I figured I will just make a good living & give back to the community by volunteering when I can. I often call and report neglect/abuse from travelling around town plus I pick up strays and take to shelter. You remind me of my ex he is also in IT but feels like he wants something more--armed forces, coast guard, police officer, you name it. Maybe take one of those career / goals tests to see if you are even a good fit based on personality/qualifications. I know tickle.com has some. I am not sure of your age but I know that once you get past like 25 time seems to speed up and go double. So I am sure you don't want to waste too much time trying to find yourself.

Being a vet nurse, you can make a big difference to those caring anxious pet owners who bring their little friends in...
First Aid... You could join St John's Ambulance maybe?
Depression needn't be an impediment as you know the signs and you would be ready to face it and defeat it...
I am a teacher and it is a profession where you have to give, give, give all the time... Perhaps that would satisfy your need to care?
