There is no for sure time period, but the use of eggs in medical ceremonies and burial ceremonies was a very spirtual thing. Though the year that a council officially decided on a date was 325.

Well I know it's been going on for a while know.I was a kid hunting Easter eggs am in my 30's know so proudly a long time.

Easter was celebrated long before Christ came (2000 years before) in worshiping the god tammuz and fertility. so the egg is a symbol of that fertility and was used to decorate and find for glory of spring and fertility and other gods

It became popular because it is a way of showing that life is anew so to show like they show eggs. the bunny i don't know
