My mom won't let me have a dog, or a cat or anything else that walks. But she said I could have a rabbit. I heard from some people though that they are bad pets. Despite anybodies answers, I'm still getting one, I just wanna know from people who have them or have had them. Thanks!

Rabbits are not very social animals and therefore do not take kindly to being held. They are also very large and need to be exercised regularly. Also keep in mind that rabbits product a lot of waste and in order to keep the smell in check need to have their cages cleaned on a daily basis.

The can live for upwards of 10 years (I have had farm rabbits for 14) so they are a long term commitment. They so require veterinary care especially if you are putting them in a run or walking them (which is highly recommended) Rabbits need exercise. They are also avid chewers and will chew on things you wish they wouldn't.

Perhaps you should look into a smaller and more cage bound animal. Like A guinea Pig or hamster, they are more affectionate, easier to care for and much less destructive.

If you're looking for a bunny to show, you probably need to go to a reputable breeder so that you can see the parents and litter mates. I believe that most of the bunnies that end up in pet stores are mixed-breeds or generally "pet quality" rabbits. Don't get me wrong, there are great pet stores out there, but even if you're looking for a pet, I think I'd either go to a breeder (if you want an exotic breed) or a rescue. Breeders know how to care for their rabbits and can help you know what to feed your bunny. Plus, when you have questions, the breeder will probably be able to answer them. Rescued bunnies always need loving homes, of course.

We have a dwarf rabbit. We can't let it run around the house because every second there will be a poop dropping so we keep it in a cage, which I personally feel bad about. But if you build the rabbit a nice outdoor pen where he can have plenty of room to wander and hop, your rabbit will like it much better. Rabbits are so cute though and easy to care for!!! GOOD LUCK! Hope this helped!

no! i love bunnies! ive had two of them, unfortunetly they died... they can make great "comforters" haha but if you have them inside they stink up your room unless you clean there cage ALOT, and they can be kinda messy. If you have them outside, make sure you have a safe little hutch for them and then a place that they can run around in where they won't run away. Spend lots of time with them otherwise they get kind of jumpy, other wise they love to cuddle ahha. (I always used to watch tv and they would just sit in my lap the whole time)
They are great pets, just make sure you take care of them properly. Maybe get a book on them at a pet store or something for tips.

Please sit down with your Mom and talk to her about pet rabbits...they are very similiar to cats. Once they are sterilized they will be very easy to litter train and need to be outside of their cage for a minimum of 4 hours a day. The vet care can be pricey if they fall ill and the average life span is 10-12 years, so this is a huge commitment.

Make sure your Mom is good with the rabbit running around your room and also commited to the cost of the vet care, especially for spaying/neutering it.

No, they thrash around way to much, you WILL get scratched up. If you get a male rabbit, they will squirt their urine. I would strongly suggest a Guinea Pig, they love the attention, eat similar food to a rabbit, are MUCH easier to handle and don't cost any more.

I've had them. They chew through everything and are very messy. If you are not consistant with cleaning the cage, they will smell.
