I just wondered if some of the inmates escaped, were killed, or transported to another jail/ facility.

Texas took most of them in from Katrina. When Katrina the prisons opened up and what little police and guards they had they lined them up on overpasses until they could be rescued. But each guard was in charge of 100 prisoners so alot escaped. It's not the guards fault since they were so over whelmed with all of it. But busloads of prisoners were through-out the south to prisons.

I can tell you that the state of Arkansas had to register over 1200 sex offenders that were displaced Louisiana residents in the months that followed Katrina.

you answered it - some managed to escape or were set free to escape the floods

some died, because they were trapped in cells in basements or first floors

and white prisoners and those with $$ managed to get transported or transferred to higher ground or other county/parish jails
