it is 6 digits.....
and the method is as simple as this.....(it works always)
If the no. Is An Even No. - then the no. of digits in the square root is:
no. of digits divided by two...
If It Is An Odd No. -then:
(No. of digits+1) divided by two.....
i haven't found an exception as yet.... if you do, plz do tell me....

The number of digits in any positive number n is calculated using the following formula.
f(n) = [[ log(n) ]] + 1, where
[[ ]] is the "greatest integer" function, which works by rounding a number DOWN to the nearest integer. Also, we're dealing with log base 10.
Example: [[ 7.9232 ]] = 7, [[ 5 ]] = 5, [[ pi ]] = 3.
To determine the number of digits in the square root of
625686734489, note that the square root is equivalent to taking a number to the power of 1/2. Therefore, we want to calculate:
[[ log [625686734489]^(1/2) ]] + 1
By properties of logs, we can move the 1/2 to the front of the log. This gives us
[[ (1/2) log [625686734489] ]] + 1
log [625686734489] is approximately equal to 11.796. Getting an exact value doesn't matter much, especially if we're going to be using the greatest integer function.
[[ (1/2) [11.796] ]] + 1
[[ 5.898 ]] + 1
5 + 1
6
The square root of 625686734489 should have 6 digits.

Note your number, called henceforth x, satifies
10^11 < x < 10^12, which, by taking the positive square root of both sides, yields
10^5 < 10^5.5 < sqrt(x) < 10^6, so since 10^5 has six digits, and 10^6 has 7, your square root has 6 digits.
