If you are talking about dispatching for sheriff,pd, fire etc. It is exactly that dispatching. You would be responsible for receiving all 911 calls and non 911 calls. You would be responsible for sending fire, ems, sheriff etc to the appropriate place at the right time. The job has alot of responsibility that can determine life and death. Most states require that once you are hired you get P.O.S.T. certified and also your states computer certified. For Example a system called NCIC is nation crime information center. You would need to talk to your local 911 center or Sheriff office to find out what you need to do to become hired. It also requires an extensive background check.

It could be anything from dispatching plumbers to job sites to being a 911 dispatcher (if in the US) dispatching police, fire and ambulances to an emergency.

If it's the latter, they look for someone with a high school educationa and preferably some college, no criminal or drug record, good job employment history and possibly a test for psychological stability. They usually train you on the job with someone working with you for a period of time.
