This is NOT normal. I worked at an OBGYN for 3yrs. We would have a lot of teens come in with that. Most of which were very involved in athletics. Sometimes that could bring on the missed periods, as is also the case with stress, cysts (big possibility) or weight issues (being over or under weight can cause hormone imbalances). Take her to her Dr ASAP.

Absolutely not.

It can happen if you are significantly, dangerously underweight. No matter what, though, you MUST see your family doctor to start this investigation. And you should have done that some 8 or 9 months ago. Hopefully, this isn't the case, but you could be costing yourself you life with this delay.

Well im 15 and my period went off for 13 months. I went to the doctor for it. my doctor told me its ok. so its ok for you now. but when it does come back on if its normal like 3-7 days theres nothing to worry about but if its longer. you need to go the doctor. ur pediatrician will refer u 2 a gynecologist. after mine came back on it lasted 4 22 days then 14 days and then 30 days. so u will probaly be prescribed a low dose birth control. as for now just enjoy not having your periods. because trust me it will come back on and when it does ugh!!

It can be because you are majorly underweight, overweight, or stressed. I have a friend who is significantly overweight, and she has her period about twice a year.

Either way, this is not normal, and you should see a gyn or a family doctor right away.

although it's normal to miss a period as a teen - a whole year is not normal - you really need to see a doctor - it could be a cyst, a colapsed ovary or an std...better to be safe than sorry...
