If you're going to invest in an 8" scope, don't buy it at Wal-Mart!
Check out Celestron and Meade's websites - they make the highest-quality midrange scopes like that for amatuers (and universities). They should have lists of dealers near you, and they have links to where you can buy them online (worth looking into for a big discount).

Since you didn't tell us where in Ohio iy is very difficult. Several places to start is your phone book, look both under astronomy, and telescopes. You can try to find out if there is any astronomy near you that you could eveb try different types of scopes. Search the internet for astronomy club and for telescope. If you include the name of your city or town in the search it will help narrow the ressults. You can also look up manufacturer web sites Celestron and Meade are the two largest they should have a link for "Find a Dealer near you" and all you have to do is put in your zip.

The market for astronomical telescopes is fairly small, and there may not be any major telescope stores in your area. Rather than settle for something from Walmart, you're better off doing what most of us do and buying online from a reputable dealer. The better stores will also offer good advice over the phone if you want it.
Here's a list of some manufacturers and dealers:

Pretty much anywhere that would have general telescopes. Even WalMart has them so go to a major store chain and they should have some. If not, Discovery Store has them and the stores are usually in malls etc. Good luck.
