Lamar Hunt, owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, who just recently passed away, was inspired to call the game the SuperBowl when he came across his daughter's Super Ball. He said it would be the perfect name for the championship game between the American Football League (AFL) that he helped to form, and the original National Football League (NFC).

The late Lamar Hunt, the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs came up with the name. I guess they went with that because it sounded better than the Average Bowl.

Lamar Hunt, the late owner and founder of the Kansas City Chiefs, named it. Legend has it he saw his daughter playing with a high-bounce ball and he asked her what it was. She said a Super Ball.
