I'm guessing they make a "sharp" looking label for whatever you use it on. Normal pens can't write on as many surfaces that Sharpies can. Like plastic bags and stuff like that. Just my guess...

Because no matter how much you use it the tip stays sharp. Felt tip markers eventually flatten with use..

Because the tip is pointy unlike most magic markers before then that had the big funky square tip on them..
