restricted input in mysql?

Question

i have a field that shall accept one of the ten numbers (1-10) as its input, i don't wanna use enum. how do i restrict input within the range?

1. Do it at the application level.
2. Use 0-9 instead and then you can do TINYINT(1) UNSIGNED
3. Use SET instead of ENUM.
