you aren't supposed to leave a candle burning unattended - I go in and out of the house a lot so every time I blow out a candle it messes it up - so what can I do about that?

sorry about my lack of details here - what I mean by leave is to go to an appointment for 1-2-3 hours or go to church for an hour or whatever. what I mean by messes up is hard to put into words - it is that the circle it burns is narrower than the circle it burned before - does that make any sense? I don't know how to describe the problem. I'm sorry. My wife used to do the candle thing and she died in June 2006 and I dont' know how much of anything works myself. But I try. I certainly didn't know how a silly candle worked other than you light it and let it burn.

I have found that the type of wax you are using has an affect on how it burns. I now only use soy wax candles. You may want to check out the site I listed below. I burn my candles all day everyday and when I do have to blow it out, when I relight it, it burns the same every time. Soy wax is different than other waxes and burns totally clean (none of that black soot stuff) and it will burn completely (you end up with a jar that looks clean when it burns completely). Anyway, I am no expert but you can check the site for more info and they are really good about answering questions and such. I do want to mention that I don't leave my candles burning when I am not home even for 5 minutes. You just never know...

hmm, what do you mean messes up??? what kind of candle?

If you are in and out, but not leaving the area, you can leave it burning, if you take some precautions that are wise any time you burn a candle. you may have to adapt these suggestions depending on the type and size of candle being used.

Make sure it is in or on some non flammable holder or dish. invert a bowl or something, and set it on top of it while the bowl is in a pan or pie plate half filled with water. this water pan should have a diameter larger than the length of the candle. Make sure the candle is no where near anything flamable like curtains or other things that go up easily. A good place to leave a candle burning is in the middle of the stovetop. Even with all this, there is as always with any open flame, a risk of fire. If you do all you can to minimize the risks, you should be ok. Never ever leave one burning while you zip to the store or something, but if you just are going in and out, the risks should not be too great. if you use a snuffer, rather than blowing it out, you can keep it longer, only burning it when you want it and or need it. Use your head and be reasonably careful and you should be alright. life is full of risks.

Use a candle snuffer and it won't spread the wax in odd directions or down the sides. Besides that, I can't think of anything else you can do.

buy a smaller candle...that way you don't have to burn it as long.
