I write a lot, everything from lyrics and poetry to short fiction. I've been wanting to make a living doing what comes natural to me for a while, but all I find are sites and companies that want me to pay them to look at my writing! I know I can write and am confident in my gift. I want to share my words with others through song writing and other mediums without shelling out tons of money and having my work stolen. Where do I begin? Any one out there with advice please answer.

I'd stay away from the web when looking for reputable places to publish work. Not all websites are scams, but many do prey on people's writerly desires. There are Market books that are nothing but listings for places that publish work. There's the Writer's Market, The Poet's Market, etc, etc. I would shell out the cash for this year's edition of one of those books. They also have good articles in them which detail all sorts of issues writers face.

there are several e-publishers who accept short stories. Don't let e-publishing scare you off, there are several who are very reputable, do a search and see who would fit your genre the best, then submit. As for the songs, I am affraid I haven't any advise. But, maybe in the search for a publisher for your stories you may run across something for your music.
Best of Luck to you!!

Yup, people do. It may say AKC, but it is not the AMERICAN kennel club. I am sure there is a registry out there that has the same initials, but is registering dogs that are not with in the AKC standard. It is sad, but the general public is ignorant to all of this.
