It is the ultimate double standard. People expect football players to use them. Football is passin baseball as the most popular sport and it is a shame. I love football, but baseball is America's past-time. I don't think people realize that even if Barry was on steroids... it would not help him that much anyway. Homeruns aren't hit because of raw power. It is for the most part bat speed, mixed with some power. Why do you think guys like Barry and Gary Sheffield hit homerunds... they have perfect swings.

First of all Barry Bonds is a racist jerk... He has not signed autographs for white people, and has not given some white reporters the time of day. Second, he just rubs people the wrong way by the way he acts. Third, anyone that thinks they are that important to have their own trainers in the locker rooms has crossed the line as far as I am concerned, and is no longer a "team" player. Last, many people view him as such an "I"guy and he is only playing to break a record.
As far as the Steroids... well if you think he was not involved in them, you are crazy! If you look at the stats they tell the whole tale... I cant find the article but SI did a story on Barry in the spring of 06... It clearly stated that by the age of 35-40 I cant remember what it was (he is 42-43 now) his numbers skyrocketed, and he grew massively. Nobody, I dont care how good you are, can produce two times as much at that age, than they were producing before... If you look at other players like Giambi for the Yankees, he has similar numbers...
As far as Marriaman, he is not seen as the same butthole that Barry is considered. Also Merriaman failed the test and did his time... He admitted to it, and said he was wrong for doing what he did... The problem with Barry is that nobody has caught him yet, because steroids have been a part of the game for such a long time, that the drug test cannot compete with the technology of the steroids just yet... Since he has not been caught yet, people are upset, and they know he has done the steroids, and its upsetting them...
If you honestly think he has not taken them look at last year when they strict testing has been in place... Isnt it true that he missed much of the season due to injury? Isnt that strange that his body couldnt heal like it used too... Steroids help your body heal faster, creating more muscle, at a quicker rate...

Bonds took two substances he referred to as "the cream and the clear" from a trainer who was indicted for handing out steriods, but didn't know if they were steriods. The clear is designer steriod THG, and the cream is a testerone based ointment. He testified to all this in a grand jury hearing. This is the same guy who initially claimed to taking an unknown substance from his roommate Mark Sweeny's locker that just happened to turn out as an amphetamine causing him to fail a test last year. Either Bonds is the biggest idiot in the world who will ingest anything without finding out what it is first, or he knew flat out what he was taking. Unfortunately they can't prove what his intention was when he took these substances.
You also cannot compare Bonds to Shawn Merriman because baseball and football are run differently and react to steriods differently. Baseball may not be the most popular sport in America anymore, but it is clearly the most numbers driven sport. People want Baseball and its numbers to be pure and Bonds is going after the most magical of all numbers - 755, the most home runs ever hit by one person in their career and the crap Hank Aaron went through to get there was so much worse. But keep in mind, after Rafael Palmeiro tested positive, he disappeared and won't be coming back. People just don't take the same policy towards football, so few hold Merriman as responsible.

Baseball is no longer America's game, football is. For some reason its OK for pIayers in the NFL to cheat. I could care less if Barry Bonds is on steroids. If he was more media friendly, this would not be such a big deal. Look at Jason Giambi, the media was talking come back player of the year last year, didn't he test positive. Why pick on baseball? In the 70', 80' and 90's is was OK to take speed before every game. Baseball sent the wrong message to the players and now the players are paying for it. If McGuire and Sosa didn't take steroids back when they had the home run race, there would not have been a home run race. That saved baseball and the baseball world has forgotten that. But, if baseball players are going to get criticized for it, every other player in the other sports should also be criticized.

Bonds has used steroids to topple long standing records and is obviously guilty. It is especially sad that he has broken records set by his godfather and a true great, Willie Mays, in this way. You can tell, just like you could with Sammie Sosa that he is a huge user not by the muscle gain, but by how large (literally) their heads became.
Sosa, McGwuire, and Bonds are going to be in the record books a long time, but there is a good chance they will never make the hall of fame.

Because he was caught for taking amphetamines. His stats also seemed to have gone up rather quickly from when he started. He wasn't having 70 or even 40 home run seasons with the Pirates. He also has a bad attitude. How can people like a cheater and an ****** is something that doesn't make sense. And to make things worse, the writers who reported on him may end up going to prison instead of Bonds. I guess telling the truth is risky as long as George Bush is in office.

people pay attention more to bonds than merriman because he is about to break the all time home run record from someone who didnt cheat and he has the single season home run record. And if you look at a picture of him from when he played for pitsburg he was really skinny and look at him from year by year hes gotten bigger and bigger dramaticaly and no 1 gets that big that quick. But still even if he did do steroids he still gets treated unfairly. i feel sorry for his family though

The difference is that everyone knows who Barry Bonds is. I had to look up Shawne Merriaman. I guess he's just more forgettable.

He's not a very nice person. Maybe you should email Greg Anderson and ask him about Bonds and the steroid issue. Don't be so naive.

Because of his attitude.
If Barry Bonds was a nice guy, and respected his fans, I'd be at least willing to like the guy.
To answer your question; Barry Bonds is a self-centered egotistical hyprocrite who thinks he is God's answer to baseball.
And he is NOT!
