Yes, i think that cellphones should be allowed in school as long as they are not used in school. Only if a student is caught using their cellphone, should it be confiscated.
I live in New York. There were policemen in my school last week with metal detecters and stuff. They took my cellphone away. Now my mom has to come get it, but not all parents have free time you know. many of my friend's parents can't come to get their phones.

Absolutely not. If caught using during school, they should have them taken away until the end of the day. If caught multiple times, school should feel free to keep the phone permanently.
There's absolutely no reason for having cell phones during school hours. Emergency? Parents can call the school and they send a runner down. It's been that way for years. Family emergency is a lame reason, as are the other weak excuses proponents suggest. Once school starts, they should be off until school ends. That includes breaks and lunch.
Cell phones just cause more problems than the nearly nonexistent possible benefits. Kids just use them to text each other, cheat, call friends/family for help in starting fights, etc.
I'm totally for those cell phone jammers. Like in some movie theaters, just turn them on during school hours.

Yeah, they should be allowed IN school, but I think they should all be turned over off and on the teacher's desk before class begins.
I heard another reason why they shouldn't be allowed in school, that's not a disruptive factor. Lots of kids nowadays use it to call friends to get into a fight. Fist fights, no problem. I'm sure guys my age (I'm 24 by the way) and older men remember getting into fist fights in grade and high school and that would settle everything. Gang warfare fights, however, THAT'S a problem. So you can argue this either way.

If a student has one, they should be turned off during school hours.......otherwise its a cause for a reprimand by the teacher, etc. or even confiscating them for a certain time. Enough 'toys'........theres enough interruptions in the classrooms as it is and cellphones are one of them!!!!!oh, by the way, where is it written that its a 'musthave!!!!'......

Absolutely Not !!
I managed to get through 12 years of primary education and 4 years of college without a cell phone.
I believe cell phones are a major downfall for today's youth.
They are much more concerned with their social status then they are about their education.
Who cares about your math final as long as you have a cell phone and an Ipod, you got it made, right?

Sorry about going off topic, but I don't think tests are a proper measure of a students abilities. These students learn how to memorise and regurgitate material, but in doing so they don't learn how to research and find information. I think the latter is a very important skill.

If the kids are responsible enough to leave them off and stay off of them untill lunch breaks or after school, then sure. Most kids are strong enough to resist those temptations though. If it becomes a distraction, then they gotta go.

Not in class. I almost think it's a disgrace that kids should even know what they are, seeing that we never had them growing up.
Of course I suppose one could make the case that the generation before me didn't have TV.

No. They're too disruptive. Students are in school to learn, nothing else. Today's students are already retarded beyond belief, they don't need to be yapping on the phone or texting to distract them from what they need to be doing: learning.
