Had a local shop work on my engine and apparently they didn't replace a spark plug correctly. It popped out of the engine and I found it sitting on top of the engine next to the oil cover. My socket set has a 3" extension, but apparently it's not long enough for the spark plug shaft. What length of socket extension would be best? Thanks.

The spark plug was disconnected completely from the wire and was found laying on top of the engine next to the oil cap. The spark plug sleeve was sittng on top of the engine still attached to the wire.

If you attempt a repair, the local shop is no longer responsible. I would call the shop and ask that they send a technician out to install your sparkplug. Obviously they are at fault since properly installed spark plugs don't "pop" out of the engine.

Was it still attached to the plug wire? If it's running without a plug in the hole it would be running very rough and making a loud popping kind of noise. Plugs don't just pop out of the hole.

Buy one that's 4 1/2 or there about's.
Figure, if it's not long enough, you can put them together for a total of 7 1\2.
