When ever you are concerned about the health of ur self or ur child, call a doctor. You don't need to rush ur self to the ER every time u have a question, but when u have a question that is nagging at you call ur doctor. I would also suggest keeping a small diary with any concerns or questions that pop up so that you don't forget them and you can run them past your doctor during your normal visits. If u are a first time mom, your concerns are especially normal. You will have new concerns during every pregnancy. This only says that you care. In your diary also keep a log of any concerns that you may have involving things that you feel may not be normal during your pregnancy. Concerns and questions might best be kept towards the back. I think the front of your diary should be for all of the feelings that you are having during ur pregnancy, ups and downs but mostly the joys. This will be so good for you after the birth of your child. This would also be such a wonderful thing for your son or daughter to be able to look over when they are at an age where they may have questions or even to see how much they were and are loved. This time is so fresh and crazy to you now, and it may be hard for you to believe, but there will be certain things that you are feeling, learning, and experiencing now that you won't be able to recall in years to come. This diary will be such a welcomed reminder of those experiences and will even help other new mothers that call upon your experience. You won't be able to write down everything but just the normal entries will be so good for you.
Good Luck and God Bless

If you are very obese you may not feel as much movement. You should have flutters. The baby may be asleep sometimes. At 5 and a half months most doctors do an ultrasound and that should be very reassuring. You could try laying on your left side after eating a meal and counting kicks (or flutters). A count of ten an hour, or 5 in half an hour is normal, more is good. Movement means the baby is getting enough oxygen and nutrients from the placenta. Less movement could mean Down's syndrome or an aging placenta (not a concern until the last weeks of pregnancy--one cause of it is heavy smoking). If your diet is good (lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, raw nuts and seeds, no junk food) you should relax. Your worry upsets the baby. Sing and talk to the baby to reassure him/her and yourself. When you feel happy/good so does the baby and that helps fetal brain development.

could be normal, try drinking some OJ, (give the baby sugarand gets them moving) and then lay down on your left side, you maybe able to feel movement. At 5 months the baby is still fairly small with a ton of room to move and might just be further in the back and not kicking so hard. If your still concerned call your Dr and have them order an U/S.

This is very normal at this stage of pregnancy. You may not feel the baby move every day for quite some time yet as the baby is still very small, and as it grows more, you sill start to feel it move alot easier more often.

If you are used to feeling the baby move around and then you don't for awhile, it's always best to get checked out. Even if you go to the ER they will set you up with a sonogram. Here's a helpful web-site about pregnancy:

P.S.- Have a soda with caffeine, even if you normally don't. This might wake the baby up. The nurses used to have me drink a soda before I went in for non-stress tests to make sure the baby was awake so we wouldn't have to be hooked up to the machine for too long.

That is absolutely normal. At five months it is still too early to feel every movement. So the baby is moving but you only feel the strong kicks and jumps.

It is normal at this stage to only feel movement sporadically, the baby is still small enough that his slighter movements may not be felt. And babies have active days, and they have sleepy, quiet days. When I'd get nervous about lack of movement, I used to gently poke my belly to get the baby to respond. It was actually really cool to poke him, and feel him move suddenly, almost like he was saying "Mom! Leave me alone, I'm sleeping here!"

It might be normal depending on if maybe the baby is still to small for you to feel all of its movements but I would tell your doctor just in cause its always best to be sure.
