You are a UK resident and you're in Canada? Doesn't that make you a Canadian resident?

Where ever you live, look for a job with a construction company as a laborer. There are ALWAYS such jobs and it is a great way to start in the industry. I was a laborer when I was 21, and I learned about framing, roofing, wiring, plumbing and most other construction trades. I don't do construction for a living any more but the things I learned back then have served me very well in several home renovation projects. I strongly recommend taking a job as a laborer and working on as many different aspects of construction as you possibly can.

Good luck!
