Thank you Ash for asking a very intelligent question. I hope some of the VIPs asking questions here will care to answer your question. Besides cinema and cricket. India has had significant development in the Software sector. However, having said that it is really heartbreaking to note that India's growth is being retarded because of: -

Rampant corruption
Lack of education
Insincere governance
Terrorism
Over population
Communal unrest
Reservation

Yes, we have made significant development in the following fields:

1. Population
2. Dividing the society further, by increasing the reservation to many, many other castes etc.
3. Electing Rowdies and antisocial elements to the assemblies/parliament and making them the 'Adda's' (You know how well the parliament / assembly sessions are conducted)
4. And of course, a silver line being the improvement in software / software professional exports

Consider the population of India and the people living under the poverty line. If you divide Rs.200 among 10 persons and I divide Rs.1000 among 500, which of us will have more money? You will have Rs.20 and I will have Rs.2 only. The remedy lies either in increasing the money to be divided e. g., Rs 50000 to be divided among 500 persons so that each gets Rs.100, or in reducing the number of persons to share the money e.g., Rs.1000 among 10 persons so that everybody gets Rs. 100 each. What do you suggest ? We earn more or reduce population? I think we need to produce more without increasing the population. Indian development therefore not visible to you now.

who said that india had significantly developed in tyhe field of cricket. I am a devoted Aussie cricket fan, and yet I would have to say that England is definitely the most developed and most improved country in the entire field of cricketing nations! I suppose we'll see come World Cup Time.

Hi Ash! I feel u are asking a very beautiful & important
question, which, I request everybody, esp. Indians, to
come forward and reply but in a more matured way. India's film industry - Bollywood - is world-wide popular since long time & 2006 has proved the best year for the
Bollywood industry and it is expected, it would go on improving more & more. As far as cricket is concerned,
if one goes thru the history, our performance in the past
was better & moreover, performance sometimes improves
and sometimes goes down. India opened its economy
from 1991 when our late Prime Minister Narsiman Rao
in his maiden speech as a P.M. said, India Means
Business. Since then, our economic development has
been going up under different Govts. In 1991, we had
foreign exchange reserves, good for shopping for
hardly one month, today our foreign exchange reserves
have reached to 180 Billion US$. Around 7-8 years before, nobody knew, what is BPO, today, it is a wellknown industry with huge investment from overseas,
which has helped in reducing our unemployment. Not only this, see the IT industry, it has multiplied in every respect and by 2010, IT related exports is expected to touch over 50 billion US$, our stock market has improved a lot, our mutual funds have improved a lot, our exports of leather products, handicrafts, chemical industry, eadymade garments, & in fact, many more, have improved a lot. 7-8 years before, we had never even dreamt of Metro train, and today, it is entering many parts of India. Before 1991, foreign investors had no interest to invest in India but today, investors from all
corners of the world are working hard to get entry into India. Ten years before, we had never heard the name of number one world's retailer - Wal Mart -, today, a common Indian knows what is Wal Mart. In foreign policy, we were somewhat weak but today highly developed countries like the USA,Europe, etc. have shown tremendous interest in our country for improving relations, for making India as a trade partner. We have signed free trade agreements with some countries and with some we are in negotiations. See our tourism improvement. Ten years before, total tourists were so small whereas the figure has touched to four million in 2006 and it would multiply much more faster in future. Our per capita income has improved a lot. Due to our country's size, one cannot expect to compare our incomes with those countries like the USA, Europe, etc.which became free from colonisation rules much earlier than India & in size, far smaller than India. Our biggest asset is democracy. No doubt, in India corruption is there but countries like China, Russia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Burma, and many. many more, have the same problem but still all these countries are developing economically very well. No doubt, we have currupted politicians but there are good & honest politicians also, e.g. our present Prime Minister, our last
Prime Minister & in fact many more & definitely political scene is improving and it will definitely improve much more than what it is today. It is a matter of time only. Last but not the least, it is not only cinema and cricket but also innumerable other fields, we have been developing significantly and now this nobody on this earth can stop India from multiplying its significant economic development. God Bless India & Indians. Long Live India & Indians. Jai Hind. Vande Mataram. Yong Kang.
