How many people around the world are attacked by pitbulls and it's not the owners fault. Is it your mothers fault you robbed the first national bank at 33.I am very sure animals grow through adulthood just like us and after then every one is responsible for their own actions. If the owners were responsible for the way pitbulls act then the spca would'nt be putting adult pitbulls to sleep.

i agree the pit bull is dangerous and the so called retired veterinarian above is talking rubbish pit bulls are born and bred to fight that's why they are called pit bulls which means to fight in a pit that's why in the UK they are banned as pets we had a case in the UK recently where a 5 year old girl lost her life by being attacked by her uncles pitbull he is being prosecuted by our cps because he had a dangerous dog.i might live in the UK but i watch the animal cops Houston on sky and all pit bulls rescued are put to sleep and in some states of America they are banned so if they are not dangerous why is there such a wide spread ban regarding them.a pit bull is born dangerous its breed predisposes it to have the killer instinct its always going to want to fight an another animal because that's what they are bred for so in answer to your question pet owners who own them are retarded and need locking up or putting down them selves

All pitbulls aren't mean. You are right about it being the owners faults though. If someone trains the dog to be mean then they are responsible for their dogs actions. However it is a misconception that all pitbulls are evil. I have met some really sweet dogs who were pitbulls. It is all in who raises the dog. Unfortunetly alot of the wrong people are getting their hands on these dog and doing evil things with them. People are choosing these dogs to make mean because of their strength. They were bread to be the strongest dogs thats why bad people choose to use them. However don't think that for one second that if all pittbulls disappeared tomorrow that this problem would be solved, because it wouldn't. People would just go for the next strongest dog and they would do the same thing. I am a avid pitbull lover. We had one for a few years. He was even around my daughter when she was only 6 mos old. He would have never hurt anyone or anything. It hurts that so many people judge these dogs, when I know how sweet they really can be. However I do get part of what you are saying. I think that there should be regulations on who can own one. Kinda like having a gun liscense
People should have to have background checks so so many of these dogs don't get into the wrong hands.

They are putting them to sleep because 1.) They aren't being bought because people are scared, plus most animals that arrive at SPCA's & Rescue centres have been badly mistreated and pitbulls are hard to take care of. 2.) Because in some states & cities, its a law by the government to have all pitbulls euthanized.

Pitbulls are VERY hard to take care of, they have a temper because they are very sensitive creatures, and people don't tend to put their heart into that. If pitbulls don't have their owners attention 80-90% of the time when they're puppies and aren't professionally trained to become tame and trustworthy with humans, then they will more likely become the stereotypical pitbull.
I KNOW this because I've had many friends who have owned & raised pitbulls or still are, and for an example, one of my friends raised a pitbull by herself, so the pitbull couldn't get enough attention and training, so it started to grow bitter as it got older.
Another friend of mine bought a pitbull and researched them for over 3 years. So she KNEW what she was doing, unlike these people who buy them right away because they think they're cool or cute or whatever. She had a family that lived with her, (a husband and 2 kids), so no matter what, there was ALWAYS someone there watching the pitbull puppy and giving it some sort of attention. Very rarely was it left home alone. If it was, it would have plenty of toys and treats out. Her dog grew into a loving pitbull that was full of energy. It has NEVER bit or even scratched someone.

It may not be the current owner of the pitbulls fault, but it may be the past owners fault (like if they got it from somewhere like the SPCA).

All dogs are dangerous, period. They are animals...not people as much as we want o turn them into furry little humans and make them live by our human rules. I am an animal lover, I volunteer at a local shelter. I've had dogs my whole life. I see the breeds of dogs that end up abandoned and euthanised. Some dogs are just more prone to aggression, couple that with irresponsible pet owners or worse the degenrate sociopaths that create fighting dogs and you have all the makings of the villification of certain breeds. The ASPCA will euthanize any dog that has zero chance of rehabilitation or the hope of living with humans and abiding by human rules. Don't blame the breed, blame the scum that exploit the inherent characteristics of the breed for some sort of sick pleasure, financial gain or just plain cruelty.

How about this - we just start putting to sleep all the irresponsible pet owners out there. I bet that would cut down on all the pitbull and other dog attacks.

Dogs are not human and do not have a rational thought process like we do. We brought these animals into our world and we are responsible for their actions. The CDC (center disease control) states the primary reason for ALL dog attacks are HUMAN ERROR NEGLIGENCE. Some dogs can not be rehabilitated and hence are put to sleep, Animals do not think like we do, they only know instinct and what they are trained. I have owned tons of different breeds and alot of the dogs were classified as dangerous, with work and training they all turned out fine and found new homes. The Pit Bull we have now is one of the sweetest and gentlest dogs ever. He is bullied all the time by my much younger Lab and has no problem with it. Are you retarded for even making a comparison between the rational of a human and a dog?

You can put the blame on BYGers.

Breeding Pits by ignorant breeders causes all kinds of problems. They sell puppies that are deformed, retarded, full of conformation faults, they have no idea what a Pedigree is nor do they know the parentage of the dogs they are breeding and the product is a very poor example of the breed. It would be like letting two retarted or mentally challenged people breed. What are the chances that their offspring will be the same as them.

What do you think of the idea to have all the dogs that appear on the list of dangerous dogs to be temperament tested?. I think that it would save a lot of problems, to weed out the ones that don't pass the temperament test.

Pits are great dogs and I remember a time when they were referred to as the "nanny dog." A dog attacking is so much different than some dumb sh*t robbing a bank. Humans retain much more knowledge and when older are able to tell the difference between right and wrong and feel guilt. Dogs only know that what they are trained is right. Stop taking blame from the people who teach their dog that attacking is right and putting it on the dog.
I've owned many pits- none ever attacked anyone, my children and grandbabies were raised around them.
Any breed of dog can be territorial and dominant- you are just as likely to be attacked by a chihuahua or yorkie just that same as a rottweiler or lab.

Bad dogs aren't bred- they're made.

You are right and wrong. Pet behavior is related to the owner, and the temperament of the parents of the dog. I have a fawn pit bull, and she is a big baby. She was abandoned in a street, found in a cardboard box! She has grown up loved and well taken care of. She is huge to look at, but a baby to be with. It all depends on how you raise the dog. A lot of attacks happen when people antagonize a dog. A chihuahua could rip your ankle off just as easily as a pit bull!!

Every person needs to be aware that any animal can be dangerous, I don't care if its the poodle next door it can still attack ofcorse to a lesser degree than a giant pit bull but still. If you keep in your mind that even the sweetest animal can turn evil in a flash you can better protect yourself and others... Every pet owner should live by that rule.

I am SO sick of explaining this to people as retarted as you are.

Ok dumba** how the hell do you think people own Pit Bulls? How the hell do you think they're shown with out killing the people and dogs around it at the shows? (Because you do know the AKC recognizes the Pit Bull and they are shown on televised events, right?)

You do know every dog has teeth, right? You do know every dog could kill you, right? And if as you put it "I am very sure animals grow through adulthood just like us and after then every one is responsible for their own actions." then a Labrador Retriever or a Golden Retriever could surely kill a small child, right? You do know Labs and Goldens and other breeds that are just 'so nice' have bitten people before, right? You know other breeds than just Pits have killed people before, right? You know that not only Pits are put to sleep in shelters, right?

So, stop listening to the damn media, because they're retards just looking for money, and learn some damn facts.

It depends on the owner and the way the dogs are raised!!! My brother had one of the sweetest pit bulls you could ever meet. Rotties, Dobermans and other big dogs can be just as dangerous if owned by cruel people!
