WOW!!!
I read the other answers before answering and I think the overwhelming majority of us think the Federal Government needs to stay out of our personal affairs.
I want them to leave my schools alone, that is a local district issue.
I want them to leave my religion alone. That means if my children want to say, "One nation under God..." they CAN!
I want them to leave my wallet alone. No more taxes for the middle class and below. I like the flat tax issue.

Lower taxes, make the rich pay the balance they need to run the country,Free Health care for everybody who can't afford it. Close the borders to illegal aliens, and terrorist.Get the future terrorist out of the country, and all 11,000,000 Illegals aliens out of this country along with their children no matter where they were born. And lower your salaries by 40%,and even by that deduction, none of you are worth what's left over, and why your at it on salaries, put a cap on all professional sports athletes salaries, nobody is worth any of the amounts of salary that is paid to those gold-bricks no matter how talented they are,try getting a real job as yourself with no background as a sports hero, you all would be unemployed.

The fact that they become totally transparent, and that the consequences of ones actions to be made public and punishments created to match the severity of the crime, No more resignation, allowed to replace the need for real jail time....Time to call Lobbying exactly what it is(bribery) and deal with it accordingly... The time is now over due to clean up the dishonesty that plagues this government

Well, the government does a lot to make my life better already, they provide security, defense, they enforce laws, provide social services, though they could lower restrictions on a lot of things, that quite frankly they have no business interfering with.

Lets see ...
The criminal code where I live would take longer to read and then understand (without a law degree) than most people live. I'm all for getting rid of a "spaghetti code" legal system that is impossible to decipher and in favor of people using common sense and taking personal responsibility.

Perhaps term limits. That way there would be a turnover that would allow fresh new ideas on a regular basis in DC and rid us of lifers such as Byrd, Kennedy, etc. They are worthless.

Quit trying to improve my life with it's government programs. Lower taxes would also help.

The government has made my life better by giving me the opportunity to get a college education. Thanks to Pell Grants and student loans, I now have a bachelor's degree in Spanish with a minor in German.

Take another look at your question. "Why" is the Government wanna make my life better. Answer? They don't! They work for us. We tell them what to do. We have to decide what we wanna do. Then tell them. Don't let them fool you into believing anything else.
