I can remember being your age (well, younger actually) and feeling a bit nervous about being measured. But there's no need to be. Do what I did - go to any branch of Marks & Spencers, and go to the underwear department. The female staff there are trained in measuring customers for a bra, and you are not obliged to buy from them.

They will take you into a fitting room to measure you, so it will be totally private.

Actually, Marks & Spencers bras are great - they have a huge range and once you've been measured and are wearing the correct size of bra, you'll be amazed at the difference it makes to how you look.

Don't be shy - give it a go. Best of luck x

go somewhere like M&S, wear the bra that fits you best at the moment, and ask to be measured. At worst you'll have to remove your top, so you'll still have your bra on etc, no worse than the changing rooms at school, then she'll (it'll be a woman) measure around the fullest part of your bust, and underneath, to work out what size you are, she'll then get some bras in that size for you to try on (she'll close the curtain so you can try them, you'll have total privacy) then make sure that they fit you ok. Then you can buy bras that fit well etc etc, as obviously wearing the right size bra helps your posture, reduces some aspects of the risks of breast cancer and reduces how droopy your breasts will be at a later date. I was 9 when I first started wearing bras, 11 when I was first measured and last time I was measured I was 18, however, I did get trianed to do it when I was 16 too. It's not hard to learn, but it's better to get measured by a professional, especially the first time.

Why not go to a specific lingerie store, like La Senza, Marks and Spencer. You can just get measured there, they will be very helpful, and try explaining that this is your 1st time and they should be considerate.

New Look are pretty reasonable to buy bra's from so you could pick on up from there.

To measure you some stores ask for you to take your top of so that they can get an accurate measurement with a tape measure. If you don't feel comfortable with this, just say, and as long as you have a fitted top on or a vest underneath your jumper it should be okay.

Good luck!x

If you are a 34 A ish, then it won't matter desparately if your bra sizing is not completely accurate, some magazines or underwear websites will give you guidance on how to measure yourself, all you will need is a tape measure, or you could try them on til you find one that fits- different makes are cut slightly different, so even if you are a 34 A in one store, you won't necessarily be in another. But why not pluck up the courage to be properly measured if its important to you- they will do it over the bra you are wearing, and although its strange for you they see other peoples boobs every day

Well this should help you find out your bra size once and for all:

First measure under the bust and then find your band size from the list below:

Underbust - Band Size

25 inches: 28 band size
26 inches: 30 band size
27 inches: 30 band size
28 inches: 32 band size
29 inches: 32 band size
30 inches: 34 band size
31 inches: 34 band size
32 inches: 36 band size
33 inches: 36 band size

Next measure around the fullest part of the bust across the nipples. The difference in inches between the band size and the bust measurement corresponds to your cup size. Find out your cup size from the list below.

0 inch difference: AA cup
1 inch difference: A cup
2 inch difference: B cup
3 inch difference: C cup
4 inch difference: D cup
5 inch difference: DD (E) cup
6 inch difference: F cup

For example, if you measure 28 inches under your bust, that would make you a 32 band size. And if you measure 34 inches around the fullest part of the bust, that is a two inch difference, making you a B cup. So your bra size would be 32B.

Now, you can find your bra size.

Good luck : )

Why do you need to get measured?

Grab a load off the rack, go to the changing room, try them all on till you find the one that fits you. There should be no fatty bits hanging over the sides, the shoulder straps should not pinch and you should be able to fasten all the hooks at the back

Nobody measured me up, and I know what size I am.

Alternatively, you could get a tape measure and ask Google "how do i take my own bra measurement" I am sure it will give you the right answers and steps to acheive.

Good Luck.

Don't be frighten to get fitted for a bra. Just walk into a large department store go to the bra section and ask the girl at the counter for the person who fits bras. they are only to happy to help you. If you wear the right bra now your body will benefit later in life. A good bra should not be uncomfortable it should feel like you really haven't got one on. I hope this helps you, remember there is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Honey, I've been in your shoes!
I'm 24 now and I don't give a flying hoot, ha ha. . . but I know it's tough at first.
The first thing you have to remember is that the fitters do it all day every day, so they're not going to be taking any notice of your body individually - you're just one of many!
Also, they'll eb trained and make you feel at ease!
I'd suggest taking a friend along and making it fun, if you can't do that and really feel liek you can't talk to your mum about it, then you shoudl be fine on your own. .
You'll feel so much better for having a proper bra. .
go for it girl :)

Try La Senza or Marks and Spencer - depending what's in your area - they are generally really friendly and in La Senza its more private and they have nicer underwear. Its best to get measured by a professional cause this will mean you are well supported and will avoid problems later on with uncomfortable bras or lumpy bits sticking out looking horrid in a tight fitting t-shirt (which, trust me, is way more embarrassing than getting fitted!)
