I notice they never use the "flat" word.

It's a nice way for Randy to tell them they are tone deaf and need to choose a new vocal coach or just stop singing (except when in the shower and alone) ha!
When singing acapella it's easy to jump keys...that's why so many people slide rather than just nailing a note and sustaining it...they can't find the right pitch. Some call it "stylizing." I call it junk singing.

Could be flat, sharp, or a combination of the two. They can't stay in key.

they are either flat(too low) or sharp (too high), it means they have bad pitch
