How can some of you people say that the mere hanging of Saddam Hussein was an act of vengance? I could write a book about the crimes against humanity that this guy committed, but let me ask you guys this: did Saddam attack us? You guys are always the one's saying how this war is unjustified bacause "Saddam didn't do anything to us," so why are you being double standard hypocrites by saying Saddam was hung out of "revenge?" What "vengance" do we have to take on Saddam? We are a neutral force!! Vengance is more than passing out due punishment for a crime, vengance is committed when one individual or group of individuals takes action for being wronged themselves. We weren't "wronged" by Saddam, the Iraqis were!! So, where's the vengance?

And while I'm at it, what would you have done to Saddam?

I find it increasingly troubling the way the trial and execution were carried out.

This is not to say he shouldn't have been executed but it is to say that it seems the government we put in charge in Iraq took out vengeance on Saddam.

The situation in Iraq has become increasingly cloudy.

The new government is Shia dominated and is much closer to Iran than our traditional allies like Saudi Arabia a Sunni country.

The longer this drags out the more it looks like the US is doing Iran's bidding in Iraq, and the less like we've established either an independent country or done anything to stabilize the area.

At this point i'm in favor of our troops staying there and trying to clamp down on the violence and stabilize the area. When people say we're in the middle of a civil war they over simplify an area that has at least 3 wars going on right now and possibly a 4th.

In th end there may be no option but to cut the country into 3 pieces and use the troops we have to stabilize the 1/3 that would still need it after we did that, the north and south are ok today ti's the middle that the problem.

It was justice...not vengeance. If you believe in capital punishment then his fate was sealed when he took the lives of others: if you take a life, you forfeit your own life. That's Old Testament Bible teaching, which even Islam recognizes. I take some exception to your comment when you say that "we weren't wronged by Saddam"...not as a nation or personally, no. However, we are our "brothers' keeper" in the sense that to stand by and do nothing while bullies oppress, torture, and kill others is to participate in the crime.

As for your "while I'm at it" question, personally, I have a hard time with capital punishment in most instances, so I probably would have kept him locked up for life.
