Hi Madeline,
Nice to know yur coming to India.. also yur timing is good. Yu shud make a general plan. Since yu have been to India before... yu must already have a general idea. Its suggested that yu divide yur time into 3 blocks and from what i gather yu have 3 different sets of places to go:
Set 1 : Delhi, Agra & Jaipur = The Golden Triangle
Set 2 : Mumbai & Environs
Set 3 : Bangalore & South India
Well there seems to be some confusion in what yu ask as yu say .. yu have been to india before... n yu have a car, indian friends n other experienced India travellers... so in that case why do you want 'MUST SEE' place... i think yur friends n others in yur group wud be the best places yu can find advise from.. if yu were a new traveller then it wud be a good idea to take the guided day trips otherwise just go thru a good guide tick off the places yu want to visit.
Have a nice holiday... Navin.

I am a Tourism Student here in India . If you'd take my advise you should visit a few not-so-popular places like

- Gulmarg (Jammu and Kashmir)
-Mudhumalai Elephant Camp (Tamilnadu)
-Ooty(The Nilgiris)
-The Andamans
-Lakshwadeep
-Secunderabad and
-Darjeeling is a must see (Do u know that on a clear & lucky day , you can see Mt.Everest from here)

I know India is all abt Mumbai , Delhi and the Taj for Foriegners but A visit to these places will make ur Trip a special one .!

If u r planning a south trip then the Backwaters of Kerala & Munnar are must see places
If it is a east India trip then u will enjoy Darjeeling/Gangtok
If it is north then it is definitely Kashmir or else the quiet Dalhousie or even Leh/Ladakh.
If it is western India,u will enjoy the serenity of Mt Abu.
Last but not the least ,the beautiful Nainital.

7-10 days is in basic terms no longer sufficient! i became into in Bangalore for over 3 months so I also have a lot of recommendations for you. I went on Safari on the national Park. you may attempt that. additionally, Mysore Palace is gorgeous. you may see the Tibetan Golden Temple, Iskcon Temple, Stone Temple. I additionally propose you bypass to Ooty. The force is long, yet there's a lot to be sure and it relatively is beautiful. in case you have a huge gamble for a rapid flight over to Delhi, the force to Agra is in basic terms a pair of hours from there and Taj Mahal is an journey you do no longer prefer to miss. For identifying to purchase in Bangalore, I exceptionally propose commercial highway. it relatively is packed on the weekends, yet no longer too undesirable in the process the weekdays. they have each little thing you may desire to probably desire. I in all probability spent slightly too a lot funds on commercial highway. don't get me incorrect, each little thing is particularly priced, I in basic terms shopped there approximately 5 cases! i finished up having to purchase yet another suitcase for my trip lower back to the States. Do have a stable time in India. it relatively is a gorgeous place with beautiful people. I fell in love with it and miss it a lot.
