Because some people lack the patience or initiative to do anything themselves. I personally use cheats AFTER I've beat the game to get a little bit of extra amusement out of the game afterwards.

Not everyone wants to "solve" some aspect of a game, they just want to play and have fun. Some cheats are good for working around poor game design, or things that are just annoying.
There are all kinds of cheats, some that just let you skip through boring spots, and others that give you god-like powers in a game. The reason for using a cheat kind of depends on what the cheat is.
I had a flight sim once that forced you to "fly" in real time, across the English Channel in order to get to a mission area. Who wants to just sit staring at the screen for 15 minutes? This is particularly annoying when you're first learning a game, because every time you get shot down or crash, you have to do that all over again, and as a newbie, you're likely to screw up a lot. That "feature" was a real barrier to learning and enjoying the game.

I usually use cheats to beat some time. In racing games you always have to unlock more cars or tracks and I really want to get it right away.

i agree with you, cheaters are losers in the long run.!!!
i prefer to complete a game without them, i can be stuck on a level for days I'll never give in & use a cheat, pointless.!!!
