Do they really know anything about cars? Or is there a dirty mechanic off camera telling them what to do?

I like how my wife thinks that you can add an extension on a house in 28 minutes, including Paint and curtains, from those stupid shows sponsored by bldg. material companys, you know, the guys that NEVER make a mistake cutting wood measurements, have everything they need, including a cement truck ready and WAITING to pour, plumbers with pre-cut pipe, electricians that show up, and contractors that actually finish the job when they say, and did'nt need another payment from an upcomming job, to finish your job.

I think the work on tv is staged. In real life maybe they would get dirty. It depends on the job. I have seen painters paint a house and never get a drop on them. When I needed to get my car fixed at a body shop I checked out 3 places and found one that was spotless. Thats where I had the work done and it was by far the best place to go.

I think it's a bunch of BS. I used to be a mechanic and I'd come home covered in oil, grease, and dirt each night. At the very least their hands should be getting dirty unless they're wasting time washing them constantly.

Most of the prep work, the cleaning of the engine, is done long before the cameras ever roll. Generally they don't go to the salvage yard and drag in a old greasy motor to demonstrate on. As far as hands, warm water and a good hand cleaner works wonders.

Well this is all for TV, and they wear a necktie as well right?? They should just have a guy in coveralls getting his hands dirty, explaining everything as he goes along, that is realistic and everyone will believe him, not some jackamoe in his button down shirt wearing a tie with his stupid smile on his face... what a tard.

I think they probably know what they are doing but there are allot of wrenching, bleeding knuckles, and dirty hands as well as a few bad words off camera that you don't get to see.

my cousin is a mechanic, a really good one if i dont say so myself, and he hardly ever gets dirty. except for his hands. the people on camera more then likely wash their hands before every scene.

They're just darn good mechanics. They're so fast too. And they never work on old cars, the cars that actually need work. Amazing.

for me this is ok, theres always people who teach and others learn. Just like a shop foreman that comes to works and never gets dirty but he knows more than me.

Yeah, those shows are staged. Like the fishing shows. They have stocked the fish for them to caught. You can't always believe everything you see on t.v. Visit your local car repair shop and see for yourself.
