I thought 'White Cliffs of Dover' was Vera Lynn.

Gracie Fields, (real name Grace Stansfield), was born in Rochdale, Lancs in 1898. She was a singing star on the stage at first, but later went on to make very successful films in the 1930s. She was probably the most successful entertainer of those times.

Famous songs she sang included, Sally (her theme song) and The Biggest Aspidistra in the World.

She spent World War II touring America raising funds for the UK, but took a bit of stick for this, not staying in the UK.

She retired to Capri and died in 1979.
