As for as the love for their mother tongue, the people in Karnataka are worst than the people in Tamilnadu. Our government wants the child to learn English from the first standard itself. We talk not Kannada, but kanglish, which includes more English words than Kannada.
As I am a neighbour of you and also know some Tamil, (a fan of Tamil movie-kamal, shivaji, Rkant and now, vijay), I think your people are more Tamil oriented, in general. May be there is an exception but the percentage is less. You tamilians are somewhat fanatic about your language. Even when they are asked questions, they will answer only in Tamil, which I have observed during my tour of Tamilnadu. But, we kannadigas, reply to the person in his own language, talking in the broken language.
Don't worry, you tamilians are better than we kannadigas, as for as the love for their mother tongue goes.
