The thing, is that, as you said, you will see no difference because the speed of the connection isn't too high, but you do will see a difference when you're far away from the router, but the big deal with b,g and the new Draft N (that works great) isn't the speed for going on-line(you will see -of course- a difference just when transferring files from one PC to another one), it's the range they have.
If what you're looking for is good range, I will definitely recommend you this router> http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/RangeMaxNEXTWirelessRoutersandGateways/WNR834M.aspx
On that page you can also find a comparison of the different technologies(b,g,N).
Good luck!

Well the thing is that there is not only the connexion between you and the world (Internet) there is something called Intranet or LAN which allow you to share documents with your other PCs and that 11Mb or 54Mb do make a difference there so if you do not use the local network then as you say there is no difference but basically that is the Idea.

In your case, since your Internet connection speed is low, it doesn't matter if you use 802.11b or 802.11g. 802.11b max speed is 11 mega bit per second while 802.11g max speed is 54 mega bits per second. However, there is a big difference in security. Many security experts agree that 802.11b's security is feeble, allowing hackers to break its encryption in 15 minutes or less. The newer security protocol (WPA) found in 802.11g is vastly superior and would take a hacker years to break. You can read more about it at PC World Magazine's article on the subject.
"Wi-Fi Boosts Security: Industry group sets interim security enhancements designed to work with legacy products." -- pcworld.com (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,106530-page,1/article.html)
To answer charges of weak security in popular Wi-Fi networks, an industry group is announcing an enhanced wireless security scheme that in most cases avoids the need for hardware upgrades.
The new spec, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), offers better security than the WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) security algorithm currently built into both the 11-megabits-per-second (802.11b) and the 54-mbps (802.11a) versions of Wi-Fi. Officials of the Wi-Fi Alliance, a trade group that certifies Wi-Fi products for interoperability, say that vendors should be able to offer WPA via drivers and firmware upgrades for legacy products starting in February.
WPA is based on parts of the IEEE's coming 802.11i security specification, which includes portions that will eventually require hardware upgrades. But since 802.11i is still in the draft stage, with approval anticipated to be a year away, the Wi-Fi Alliance decided to introduce the initial part of the spec, which is stable and can be achieved via software upgrades.
People and companies that already have Wi-Fi networks up and running will in many cases be able to enjoy the improved security in WPA via firmware upgrades supplied by their equipment vendors...[read the rest of the article]
