The reason is that proper grammer and useage in the English language has been overlooked in schools. English is not the subject it once was. My highschool English class was really a joke. I thought we would be dissecting sentences, learning the proper ways to use the words spell them and etc.
You know what we did....we read books, did reports, learned to write creatively...all while completey dismissing what should have been learned. So in reality the last time I had a REAL english assignment was in the 6th grade.
I think its sad that our schools have gotten away from English as a subject, and spelling also. My son in the first grade doesn't even have spelling at his school...they have sight words in which they learn to reconize at school....I miss old fashioned spelling words, and old fashioned English class.

Maybe there should be some mini lessons on TV. It certainly couldn't hurt. However, I myself make this mistake because of my typing isn't as fast as my thinking? or is it the other way around? ha.... My last name ends with a S and people do not know how to use an apostophe when the word ends in Sand the ywnat to make it plural. Maybe they ought to have lessons on TV for that one too!! ;-)

There are so many hollow excuses for this type of sloppy learning and application. People say things like: "This forum doesn't require accurate spelling" or "I type so fast I don't attempt to capitalize the first letter or use punctuation" or " Who cares, what are you, an english teacher?" etc.
It's all a part of the decline of the English language, at least as it is applied in the USA.

since this is informal maybe they are just typing fast & not writing like they know how? Like sometimes we don't capatalize the beginning of sentences, throw punctuation to the wind, incomplete sentences or run-ons cuz we are just typing a quick remark/response -synopsis or shorthand would be the better answer! :o :)
Business English in college is a good course to take. (It's a fun little brush-up course to take in your spare time) It goes over those rules. :)

Well, I suppose it has little to do with education and more to do with fun-ism! lol
I want to have fun when I do this so I don't really care one way or the other! Fact: I don't care, so no apostrophe! Fact: You care, and still no apostrophe!
Are you seeing the trend?
I'm not being mean, I am being honest! This is meant for fun, so relax and enjoy!

This annoys me too. I nearly cry every time I pass a beauty shop in my city that says in huge letters on the shopfront:
Walk "n" beauty
Walk "n" massage

because Englis is a complex language. It derives many of it's arcane grammar rules from other languages so it's difficult to remember all the rules.
