Don't be so quick to open the drive while it's running. Give it a chance to slow down. CDs and DVDs spin at incredible speeds inside of that drive. They have been known to explode inside of the drive from spinning so fast and getting so hot. They shatter into a million pieces when they do and shards go everywhere. It sounds like you have been opening it that way for awhile now. A replacement with a DVD burner would be the best option here. Even if the CD/DVD Combo is under warranty, they will replace it with a refurbished one. While your waiting for Lite-On to do their thing, DVD burners can be bought for about $40-$50 at your local Wal-Mart. But, they do EVERYTHING! Burn and read CDs and CD-RWs, burn and read DVDs and DVD-RWs. So, that would be my next move. It is EZ to install into the same slot that your CD/DVD Combo drive is in now, and then you would have a second drive, after Lite-On coughs up that other replacement drive, talk to your Uncle, he'll help you through the installation process. Or there are sites on the net that can help you through the installation process, if you'd like to try it for yourself.

Hello darklotus

I hope the Bears do it!

On your CD drive. If it was my system I would replace it. You can get a DVD / CD combo for about $25. Then you have the best of both worlds.

If you can't afford a new drive right now go ahead & use the noisy one. Absolute worst case it quits working.
