my 1 year old was just getting over a bad flu he catched in germany. now we are bak in the the us and yesterday a other 1 year old came to hug my son in the shoestore. her grandmother explained happily that the baby has a virus, which they talked about in the news, we live in california. now i dont know weather its something bad, we havent seen the news as we were in germany.
what should i do, go to the hospital with the higher temp, can he still eat and drink everything.

i am so mad at those people for letting a sick child run around and hug other babys.

i am worried again, i could just cry, i dont want him suffering from a cold again, the last one was bad enough

If he has a high temp, get to the doctor and let the doctor know. The doctor should have a good idea of the current virus and will be able to make your little one comfortable.

I know what you mean... I have the flu right now thanks to the neighbor's baby. I took care of him one day and he slobbered all over my place - phone etc. THEN they tell me he had the flu and had been unbearable (which is why they needed a break and called me in). I ended up missing three days of work.

I wish people understood that spreading germs is NOT nice.

I hate it when people let their sick kids around my kid. My 18 month old daughter and I have a bad cold right now because of a similar situation...

I searched through the news and didn't find anything too scary in California. The only specific virus I saw mentioned was Norovirus, but that article was a couple years old when I clicked on it.

Treat the symptoms, and if he has a high fever, or is vomiting excessively, or has signs of dehydration (dry eyes, skin that doesn't spring back into place when gently pinched, etc.) take him to the doctor. My pediatrician has a nurse that you can call on the phone for advice - maybe yours does too?

Try to think of it this way - that's one less day of work he'll miss when he's grown, since he'll already be immune to this bug. :)

Good luck!

How high is the temp? What kind of virus is it? Some viruses arent contagious by touch. If your child has a high temp over 101, I would go to my pediatrician or ER. But try not to get too anxious about your child catching a virus. It might have been a stomach virus or something. Depending on the type of virus, the contagious period might have been over. Many kids have viral germs, try not to overreact. I hope that your child has a clean bill of health though. I hate it when my son has a simple viral cold!

Being a mother I would freak too! But since you just got home I would probably go home and keep your eye on his fever and make sure it does not go above 103 if it does then that is when you need to get him to an emergency room or in to the Dr.s I know most people think it's above 101 but any Dr. will tell you at that age there is nothing they can do at that age above 101 anyway at home or in th hospital above 103 is when they need to have them in there in case it gets higher or stays at that temperature, so they can watch it and be prepared for the next medical procedure. Your son may have gotten lucky and not have caught this cold from the child as he may have been past the point of passing it on to others by that point. There is that possibility. Then there is the possibility that he did, but if you keep your eye on him and his temperature you will know! Good Luck!

I'd just watch it, the doctors don't really consider anything lower then 101 to be a fever anything in the 100 lever is considered low grade and they will more then likely tell you to give the baby Tylenol and Motrin (rotate every three hours I think) if it gets close to 101 then I'd call your doctor, if it's a virus there's not a lot that can be done it just has to run it's course. Just watch the baby and take it's temp every hour or so.

My daughter's pediatritian says not to worry unless the temp goes over 101 deg. F. My husband didn't believe me when I said she didn't need Tylenol for a lower fever til the doc confirmed it. The reason a person's body gets a fever is to kill an infection. If you get rid of the fever before it kills the infection, you may prolong the child's illness.

Good luck. If it goes higher than 101 for more than 2 days, I'd take him to the doctor. Better safe than sorry with the little ones.

If I were you, I would probably be freaking out too! I can't believe those people actually had their sick baby out and contaminating everyone. I would go to the ER, and just have him checked out just to be safe especially that his resistance is low due that he is just getting over the flu. What ever this baby from the store has sounds like a bid deal, especially if it was all over the news. just try to stay calm (which I know it is hard) and take your son to get checked. I hope everything is OK. good luck!!

cms is right. You shouldn't worry about it unless it goes up to 101.It is the way your body fights the virus. If it goes to 101 then give the child some tylenol and check it again in 40 minutes. If the fever hasn't gone down in a hour then call your doctor.Good luck

take the child to the doctor. If the doctors office is not open then take the child to the hospital. Better to be safe than sorry.
