low coolant or a cracked head gasket

Did you recently top off the coolant? If you did than it could just be that you did not let the engine fully warm up when you were replacing the coolant. you have to let the engine warm up with the radiator cap off of the radiator. then fill the radiator with coolant until its full and until no more air bubbles come out of the radiator. Also If your head gasket was bad this would also cause your coolant system to have air in it. But then again your car would exhaust white smoke all the time and your engines oil would smell like coolant. Go to your mechanic and have the problem checked out.

A lot of Chevys have bad intake manifolds which causes the coolant system to get air bubbles. This is your most likely possibility although my dad says it could be a lot of things (even a bad head gasket). You should really have a mechanic check it out!

Probably nothing is broken. Open the filler cap (ON A COLD ENGINE!), run it for 10-15 minutes, let it sit for an hour, add coolant to the system.

if it's running hot you've got a cracked head or a blown head gasket.
