Danny is out along with Mel. He may care but he should find something more pressing to care about nowadays, don't you agree????.

Think about this. If you believe that child mortality rates are at an all time high, check your info. Breakthroughs in medicine changed that years ago. If our kids are croaking, we brought it on. Just check out the pre/post 1900 census records. You will see that children died all of the time. I actually thought the question our supposed Danny Glover posed was stupid yet it got over 1100 answers. OF COURSE OUR CHILD MORTALITY RATE IS AT AN ALL TIME LOW. SURE IT IS SAD WHEN A CHILD DIES, BUT THAT IS CALLED POPULATION CONTROL. I don't want our earth overpolulated with runts and weaklings. The human race was meant to survive and live on and yes, there are always going to be runts kicked out of the litter. Is there anybody out there who agrees that it is nature's way of preserving the best and strongest of our race?

Also, just so you know, I was raised in poverty and should not have survived my birth. I was a runt. I weighed in at a whopping 2 pounds and was in foster homes all through my childhood where I was also malnourished. I do have a heart and compassion. The only thing we can do to save the children from suffering is to educate the parents who keep bringing helpless children into this world, knowing they cannot provide for them. And no, of course I know that most certainly is not Danny Glover but 1200 people sure did, huh?

I think the more important uestions are:

These celbs like Danny can afford to help without our help, and are just being patronising

Why must everyone jump on the bandwagon and message him? If a normal person posted that question no one would give a flying flunk. Do they feel that Danny Glover will message them personally through all the thousands of hits?

Did Danny Glover use a copy and pasted picture?

Why do only famous people get to the top? You don't see Oprah on the normal rounds.

In the USA and other modern countries the mortality rate is down; but not in third-world countries - it is dramatically high.
I understand your point about the stronger survive and the weaker die; Nature does in fact have a way of doing things for the better. That said, these little children are not just dying, they are suffering most of their short lives in ways that are beyond your comprehension. If they are to die, then at very least there should be an effort to minimize the suffering. Thats only humane.
Do you know that a person on death row has more rights not to suffer than these millions of little innocents? Only a person made of stone would ignore that fact, and not want to do some little thing to help. When you say we don't want the earth overpopulated with runts and weaklings, well the thing is, that the only reason they are runt or weak is because they don't have the nnutrition and medicines required to stop that. If they had, then you wouldn't see runts and weaklings, but instead, healthy minds and bodies, and perhaps many with alot to offer this world.
So even though you do make somewhat of a valid point, you need to balance it with actual knowledge as well as some compassion.

If tin pot governments looked at the health of their citizens instead of buying arms to protect and prop up their regimes then child mortality would be reduced dramatically. And they might even win support from their own people with humanitarian agendas

The death of a child is a sad and worrying thing particularly for the want of a few dollars worth of medicine or basic foods. Look at the countries where it is happening, what does it say about them. Can outside aid from the so called civilized world solve these problems in the long term. I think we absolve indiginous governments of their responsibilities. For want of a long term solution we must help stem the tide of infants and child deaths.

I hope Mr Glover is putting his money were his mouth is.

Clean record? Clean cut? Clean and tidy? Clean reputation? What?
