That's ironic, b/c all of my preseason and pre-Clemens picks have been Mets vs. Sox in the series.
It makes a lot of sense really. The Red Sox have a very deep rotation and a bullpen that is much improved over last season and has a good mix of veteran talent and young guys like Delcarmen and Hansen who are ready to come into their own. The lack of a set closer may be an issue, but I feel like that will work itself out by mid-May.
The Sox offense looks great on paper and although the Yankees may have the better overall team offensively they also don't have the same pitching depth and we've all seen that good pitching staffs can obliterate a great offense in the playoffs.
As far as the Mets go, the National League has been in a very large down-cycle the past few years, but I think things are turning around with some of the moves made this offseason. However, I still look at the Mets and picture them as far and away the team to beat.
The offense is incredible and fires on all cylinders up and down the lineup. Great defense to back up the pitching staff and a bullpen that is completely lights out. I think the bullpen will be a big part of what carries the Mets weakened rotation. Sure they have a couple of 40-somethings and then three question marks, but look at it this way...if their bullpen is anything like it was last year, all a pitcher has to do is bring a lead into the fifth or sixth innning and it's game over.
I think the rotation will come around too. Glavine rebounded big last year. El Duque is going to be phenomenal for about 20 starts...he'll be awful for another 10 starts, but you gotta take your lumps somewhere. Oliver Perez showed in the playoffs that he could actually regain that phenom status he was granted after his 2003/2004 campaigns. Pedro should be back at mid-season. Jorge Sosa could end up as a steal and the farm system has at least two arms who are ready for the call now.
All-in-All I agree one-hundred percent...this has been my World Series prediction as well and I'd love to see how it would all shake out.

It's not a completely farfetched idea. The Red Sox made key acquisitions over this off-season. The Mets almost made the World Series last year. The only problem is the Mets don't have a sufficient pitching staff to carry them through the playoffs.

Red Sox will finish tops in the AL East now that they've established a better bull pen bringing in Romero, Donnely, and Pineiro, nevermind they still have young talented arms such as Delcarmen and Hansen. Still a top offensive team with Manny and Ortiz and have a solid 5 man rotation.
Red Sox vs Mets sounds a good possibility as long as both clubs stay healthy.

The Mets might make it but the Red Sox probably won't. Red Sox will have a bit of a down year.

Well Mets pitching is not incredible right now. El Duke, Glavine... thats about it starter-wise. The Red Sox are supposing Matsuzaka will be good. I'm expecting his ERA to be in the 4s, but he'll have plenty of strikeouts... I think these two teams will be good but not World Series worthy.

Boston will not even make the playoffs finishing 3rd to the Yankees and Blue Jays. The Phillies will win the NL East and eventually win the NL pennant.
The Yankees and Phillies will meet in the series and the Yankees will win a 7 games classic series.

It is too early to start thinking about that. The Yankees are a prime contender in the AL East with Boston, Toronto, and other teams. It also going to be tough competition in the NL East as well.
