Please give me thorough steps to do this. Because my Yahoo Messenger does not show under installed programs and I don't want to delete the entire Yahoo by mistake. And also if putting my system in Safemode will allow me to uninstall Yahoo Messenger, tell me how to do this and exactly when and what to press.

Because it wont let me delete the messenger. The only way I was able to see the Yahoo Messenger application was to go into Control Panel under Yahoo, not Yahoo messenger and it was listed there.

Can someone read and understand what I'm saying my goodness. I will not delete if it says Yahoo (alone by itself) because that will delete the entire Yahoo application, I only want to delete Yahoo Messenger!

I have Windows 2000. And for once can someone answer my questions right. Even if I start it in safemode I'm not going to delete the entire Yahoo only messenger. So if you can't tell me how to do it right you won't get the best answer.

Once again, I cannot go into Add/Delete Programs to find my Yahoo Messenger because it's not there. Only when I goto Program Files, double click on Yahoo and then I can see Yahoo Messenger and all of its contents. So I need to be able to delete it like this. But it keeps saying access denied, source file may be in use.

1 Restart the computer.
2 When it shuts down and before it starts to restart HOLD DOWN the F8 key.
3 It will ask you what mode to start in, by giving you a list to choose from. Do this as quickly as possible, so it does not choose another mode for you.
4 Using your arrow keys go the the Safemode option and hit the return key.
5 It should start in safemode.

YOU WANT TO UNINSTALL YahooIM & REINSTALL IT to be SURE it places ICONS on your Desktop & in the System Tray. It should automatically place it on your Startup Menu.

After you restart in safemode:
1 Go to Start
2 Go to Control Panel
3 Then choose the add/delete programs
4 You want to remove Yahoo messenger
5 Restart in normal mode
6 Reinstall Yahoo Messenger
7 When you are installing choose [IF it gives you the OPTION] to add a desktop icon and a system tray icon [This will place a link to Messenger on your desktop, and place a smiley face in your system tray when you are logged into Messenger] If it does not give you these options to choose from, then the sodtware should place them on your PC automatically.
8 Once you download it and have it setup on your PC
9 Open & log into Yahoo Messenger
10 Go to the top and you will see the word Messenger, left click on it.
11 Go to preferences & set it up how you wan it
12 Then go to privacy options and set that up how you want
13 You can also play around with other things under messenger, contacts & actions.
14 You can also setup a microphone/headset, and or, speakers to it as well to voice chat
15 You can also change the skin of your messenger [the look & feel], and if you don't like what they offer? You can go to Google & type in FREE Yahoo IM skins. You should be able to download more online on sites that offer free Yahoo IM skins.

Hope this helps hon!

If you are using windows, 98, ME, 2000, XP, you have to make the same thing...

While turning on your computer, press the F8 key in the upper part of your keyboard, keep it press until you hear a chirp. Release the key and you'll have a screen telling you to choose. Select SAFE MODE and press enter...

With Win2000 and XP you should know the administrator password to enter.

Once there, go to control panel and look for Yahoo Messenger.

Reboot, and enter to computer normally. You could reinstall YM without trouble

For Windows XP

If the computer is running it is best to shut down Windows and then turn off the power.

Begin by first clicking on the Start Button and then click on Turn Off Computer.

Now click on the Turn Off red colored icon to shut down your computer system.

It is best to wait between 15 to 30 seconds before you turn your system back on.

Turn on your computer and start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.

Some Computers may display a keyboard error message if you begin tapping F8 too quickly.

Restart your computer again and begin tapping the F8 key a brief second or two later.

When the Windows Advanced Options Menu appears, Choose the Safe Mode option and hit Enter.

Windows will now boot your computer up in Safe Mode.

Keep tapping F8 as you turn on your Windows XP, 2000, 98 machine.

Select "safe mode" , don't worry too much about the other safe mode types for right now.

When you run safe mode your screen will look funny (large and bad colors) this is normal. Do your thing and when you restart it should be normal again

Good luck with that. I get problems with Yahoo Messenger all the time and I never use it. I tried to uninstall it and lost Yahoo altogether.
