If u have insurance all u need to bring is your insurance card, same thing if u have medicaid...U will have to fill papers with information about your birthdate, social number, drivers liscense or state id number etc,so just make sure u either know them by heart or u bring them to fill the papers out... It depends on how far along u are in your pregnancy whther they give u an u/s..I just had my first ob appt the other week and i was 14 weeks pregnant and they gave me an ultrasound that same day..i didnt need to have a full bladder and didnt need to have an empty stomach either,i urinated right before i went in and had a regular full stomach and they saw my baby fine *i have a picture too and u could see everything*..good luck!

You usually don't get an ultrasound at your first appointment, but every doctors office is different. I think if they were giving you one, they would let you know and give you instructions on whether you can eat or drink, because it is different depending on what they want to see. Many people don't get an ultrasound till 16 weeks, but I got one at nine and for that appointment, they told me to drink a lot of water and not to pee. They wanted a full bladder cause it helped them to see certian things. They didn't say anything about fasting so I didn't and everything was fine. But she did tell me that for later ultrasounds the eating and drinking requirements would be different. Like I said if you were having one, they probably would have told you when you made the appointment if there was anything you needed to do.

it depends on your dr. my first drs. appt I got an ultrasound because my dr. uses that to confirm the due date and make sure it adds up to your lmp. you can eat anything you want before, the only thing I have ever been told is when you are in early pregnancy, go on a full bladder if you are getting an ultrasound so they can see the baby better, they did not use the fetal doppler on my first appt either because before 12 weeks the doppler has a hard time picking up the heart beat.

They will ask for a medical history of both you and the father so if you do not know any of that then sit down and write it all up. Since it is just your 1st visit then more than likely they will not do an ultrasound. This usually isn't done until between 16-20 wks unless they think there is a need for it.
Best Wishes!

they will give you instructions before the ultrasound.I had to drink 32 ounces of water or juice a couple of hrs before the appt. they want your bladder completely full. I ate a meal and it never affected any of my ultrasounds. But make sure you pee after the ultrasound. Bring water with you jus in case they need you to drink more.
bring your insurance card if you have one. they might take out blood and give you a small ultrasound. they also will check ur weight and the babys heartbeat. i heard my sons heart beat when i was 7 wks pregnant. good luck.

They will do some blood work and you will have to fill tons of papers about your families medical history. The doctor will probably do exam and they will try to listen to the baby's heart beat with Doppler. If they wont be able to find it they will probably do the ultrasound just to make sure you indeed are pregnant and that the embryo is OK. It also depends on how far along are you.

They generally like to do ultrasounds at 8-12 weeks, then 20, then maybe 30, then 38. The first trimester you will want a full bladder, they can see better if it is full, after that 20 week mark you usually don tneed to have a full bladder... I have never been told not to eat... Other than that the only info they need at this point is when you last period was to the best guess if you dont have an exact date for them.

No. You can eat and drink normally. They will do this first ultrasound one of two ways: Transvaginally, which is when they put the probe inside your vagina, or through the belly, which is how I had both of mine done. That way doesn't require that you be undressed or anything, but whether or not they can see the heartbeat that way this early depends on how big the baby is, it's positioning, and how much fat you have around your belly.

More than likely they won't do an ultrasound at your 1st appt. You need to bring your proff of insurance, and that's about it. You will have lots of paperwork to fill out once you get there. When you ARE scheduled for an ultrasound, you WILL know before hand, and your doc will give you instructions then. Good Luck!

Just do what they asked you to do. And don't do what they warned you against and things will be fine. Approach this as casual as you can. The baby sences stress. It's not good for him/her. Remember to ask for copies of the photo! During an ultrasound the tech may not ask you if you want copies and when it's over it's too late! Be bold and request copies of everything! Worth it later on in life! Please no beans before your visit! We hate that!!!!
