I got home this morning and there was a solid layer of bubbles covering the surface of my fishtank. I havent added anything except stress coat. Why are there so many bubbles? What can I do to get rid of it?

Sometimes its a bacterial buildup at the top of the water, but in your case its probably the stress coat. Do a water change, skimming the top layer off the water as best you can. Any buildup like this is not necessarily harmful, but it prevents air exchange at the surface of the water.

If you're using an air pump, ensure that it's not too powerful and that you have something, such as an over the back filter, to break up the bubbles from that. Likely though, the stress coat is the guilty party here. I wouldn't necessarily reccomend a water change as you just added the stress coat, but find a way to break some of the bubbles so your fish don't suffer from the bubble layer between them and the air.

Well, I have a beta fish, and he does this all the time. He actually blows bubbles to make a nest for eggs. It's pointless because there is no female in the tank. By the way never get a female and a male beta fish together they will kill each other. Beta fish are very terratorial.

I had an similar ingredient happen in my a million gallon tank without filter out. i'd recommend a minimum of having a filter out. you'll get one for that small of a tank for enormously low priced 10 bucks or a lot less. that could be sensible yet you pick to commence testing the water. They promote ammonia attempt strips and likewise nitrite and nitrate alongside with ph not person-friendly water ect.. examine up on the thanks to cycle the tank that is going to clarify allot. only goodle it there are a great number of internet web pages. you may cycle with fish although that is not person-friendly on the fish and that i'm no longer particular about guppies yet maximum tropical fish can't take it and die. commence doing 25% water alterations each day untill you get a filter out and watch your fish close. in the experience that they commence to instruct signs and indicators of rigidity i'd see about taking them lower back to the keep you acquire them from and prepared untill the tank is authentic cycled and probability-free for them.

Unfortunately all my Koi seem to have been eaten - probably by a python - but before they disappeared from my pond they often spawned, with the resulting bubbly filaments floating to the top.

Could it be your fish have spawned too?

Hey, Mayroxy - do you mean "territorial"?
